The Body Map - 5. Wrist, arm and hand
- The hand and wrists are common sites for osteoarthritis. In addition, many people suffer injuries where they slip and put out a hand to break their fall, possibly resulting in a fracture. This may result in pain around the wrist and hand area, even many years after the original accident
- Pain on the side of the elbow (golfer's elbow or tennis elbow) usually results from repetitive overuse
- Pregnant ladies and people suffering from certain medical conditions (for example thyroid disorders) may also suffer with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, whereby a nerve in the wrist is compressed, leading to pins and needles in the hand. Osteopathy can provide an alternative to coventional treatment, which may include surgery
